Baris Farm

The farm

Baris is situated 10km from Clarens in the picturesque Eastern Free State. The fertile soil and abundant rainfall provides the ideal place to keep animals and plants very happy. This naturally led to more diverse farming possibilities. In 2016 Baris welcomed a herd of dairy goats, Koekoek chickens, and the first sheep.

Baris is a family owned and managed farm.  A third generation is now exploring the opportunities that farming could provide in the cultures of today.  With the help and experience of previous generations, youthful enthusiasm as well as the knowledge and technology of today, we hope to develop the full potential of the land and local community.

The Baris Monger

Baris Monger is a small deli-esque restaurant which showcases all products made on the farm. From here they sell all their cheese as well as farm made condiments.

Baris offers tastings of their farm made cheese,  as well as cheese platters paired with local delicacies and fine wine. New to their tasty menu this season is a cheese and wine pairing, you’ll get to taste their cheese and 5 Weltevrede wines.

At the Baris Monger you will also find espresso based beverages, farm made lemonade and ginger beer. For the sweet tooth they offer THE BEST cheesecake as well as French style crepes.

Their Cheeses

Soft and fresh, aged and stinky, they have them all.  The ancient tradition of making cheese is such a humble and wonderful way of preserving the goodness of milk.  All Baris farms’ cheeses are made with 100% goats milk.

All these cheeses can be bought and sampled at the Baris Monger.
